"The Little Nyonya" stars charm international photographers

CANNES, France: It may be about 13 degrees Celsius in the southeastern French coastal city of Cannes, but that did not stop the stars of local hit series, "The Little Nyonya", from turning up in costumes for photographers at the international TV content trade show, MIPTV.

The Mandarin drama series has been purchased by broadcasters and distributors in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam and the United States.

In fact, fans who cannot get enough of the show will be glad to know that MediaCorp will be staging a Peranakan-themed musical titled "The Peranakan Ball" on May 16.

Directed by Goh Boon Teck, renowned theatre director, playwright and production designer, this colourful and heartwarming Mothers' Day musical recreates the emotional highlights of the drama serial with a plot set in a Tok Panjang, where a downtrodden Nyonya servant girl in a wealthy Peranakan household finds the Baba of her dreams.

Some of the stars from "The Little Nyonya" will sing and dance on stage along with veteran MediaCorp artistes.

Jeanette Aw and Dai Yang Tian will headline this musical with other artistes such as Xiang Yun, Ann Kok, Rayson Tan, Ben Yeo and Brandon Wong, as well as Project Superstar's Chen Di Ya and Carrie Yeo.

Tickets are on sale at SISTIC.
